Die New Yorker Reporterin Alexa Karolinski erstellt mit dieser Dokumentation ein bewegendes Portrait ihrer Großmutter Regina und deren Freundin Bella. Beide jüdische Frauen haben den NS-Terror und den Holocaust sowohl mit-, als auch überlebt und machten, nach jenem dunklen Kapitel der deutschen Geschichte, Berlin zu ihrer Wahlheimat. Mit der Kamera wird nichts Profaneres, als der Alltag der mutigen Zeitzeugen eingefangen und diese ist so stets und ganz dicht dabei, wenn Essen gekocht und damit alte Traditionen aufrecht erhalten werden. In ehrlichen Bildern und Dialogen erfährt der Rezipient, welch ungewöhnliche Geschichte die beiden gemeinsam haben und wie sie es schaffen, mit Humor und kulinarischer jüdischer Leichtigkeit ihre Kindheitserinnerungen und Wurzeln in die Gegenwart zu transportieren. Essen als Metapher für einen ungebrochenen Lebenswillen und unerschöpfliche Lebensfreude.
