Le 1er Septembre 1923, le grand tremblement de terre du Kanto plongeait Tokyo et ses environs, dans le chaos. De ces ruines, naîtront les premiers signes d'une militarisation du pays qui va se poursuivre durant les décennies à venir. Par contraste, on observe l'épanouissement de cultures locales, encore méconnues aujourd'hui, telles qu'un circuit national de sumo féminin. Prenant sa source au début du XIXème siècle, ce sport se développe avec un haut niveau de technicité avant de disparaître durant la période de haute croissance d'après-guerre. Laissées pour compte de l’histoire, ces femmes intrépides étaient pourtant de vraies combattantes dévouées corps et âmes à leur sport. A travers cette fresque à la fois romanesque, réaliste, politique et féministe, Takahisa Zeze nous conte la rencontre entre une de ces sumotoris et un jeune anarchiste rêvant d'une société dépourvue de classes sociales
