A propos du film :

Pendant la période de l'entre-deux-guerres, sur une île isolée au large de l’Écosse. Aislin y vit en recluse avec Balor, son mari pasteur connu pour ses changements d'humeur violents face auxquels la jeune femme trouve refuge dans la contemplation de la beauté aride des paysages environnants. Tandis que de nombreux habitants quittent l'île, le couple accueille un jeune garçon de Glasgow, placé chez eux par une œuvre religieuse caritative. Balor tout d’abord s'en méfie, à la différence d’Aislin qui se sent proche du jeune homme. Leur relation va évoluer lorsque Balor est amené à quitter l'île pour quelque temps...
