Sans emploi ni perspective, Cetarti mène une vie monotone à Buenos Aires. Lorsqu’il apprend la mort de sa mère et de son frère brutalement assassinés à Lapachito, une petite ville perdue de la province de Chaco, il part régler la succession.Là-bas, il fait la connaissance de Duarte, un ancien militaire qui règne sur la ville et a des accointances avec les assassins de sa famille. Duarte lui propose son aide pour récupérer l’argent de l’assurance vie. Les déboires de Cetarti à Lapachito commencent alors : pris dans la spirale violente des combines de Duarte, il sombre peu à peu dans un monde sans foi ni loi.
