Omar, adolescent instable et solitaire, vit dans un bidonville de la banlieue de Mostaganem. C’est un garçon accro aux célèbres psychotropes surnommés « madame courage ». Des comprimés d’Artane très prisés par les jeunes Algériens pour leur effet euphorisant d’invincibilité. Spécialiste du vol à l’arraché, Omar va, ce matin-là, comme à son habitude, commettre ses forfaits dans le centre ville. Sa première proie s’appelle Selma, une jeune fille qui se promène avec ses copines et porte - bien en évidence - un collier en or. Alors qu’il commet son acte, Omar croise le regard de Selma.
