Enfant, Robinson etait fascine par les lourds vaisseaux qui remontaient la Tamise en passant devant la propriete familiale des Crusoé. Sa premiere visite a Londres l'effraie et renforce sa vocation maritime. Il sera marin. Dix ans plus tard, il navigue enfin sur un majestueux voilier quand un naufrage le précipite, seul survivant, sur une ile deserte. Le temps passe. Un jour, une tribu cannibale debarque sur une plage. Robinson la fait fuir, sauvant ainsi l'homme destiné à etre devoré, qu'il surnomme Vendredi. Ils vont s'apprivoiser et, peut-etre, partir ensemble.
