1948. Preston Tucker est un brillant ingénieur automobile. Visionnaire dans sa partie, il a conçu un véhicule révolutionnaire. Mais les "Trois Grands" de Detroit, Ford, General Motors et Chrysler, se sentent remis en cause par ce self-made man qui bénéficie pourtant du soutien d'un certain Howard Hughes. Ils vont tout tenter pour l'empêcher de réaliser ses projets. Au cours d'un retentissant procès, Preston Tucker va démontrer qu'en l'empêchant de construire ses voitures, c'est le rêve américain que l'on détruit...
