A propos du film :

Après une éruption volcanique, une fillette, Cabiria, est enlevée avec sa nourrice par des pirates carthaginois. Sur un marché d'esclaves, elle est achetée par le grand prêtre de Baal pour être sacrifiée. La nourrice parvient à alerter un patricien romain, Fluvio Axilia, qui dépêche son serviteur, le bon géant Maciste, afin de délivrer l'enfant. Pendant qu'Hannibal traverse les Alpes, Cabiria est recueillie par la reine de Numidie, Sophonisbe, mais Maciste est enchaîné et réduit en esclavage. Les années passent. Cabiria est devenue une belle jeune fille, suivante de Sophonisbe. Bien que la flotte romaine ait été en partie détruite à Syracuse, Scipion entre à Carthage. Sophonisbe se suicide. Cabiria, après bien des péripéties, parvient à délivrer Maciste et Fluvio Axilia, qui tombe amoureux d'elle. Tous trois regagnent Rome...
