A propos du film :

Grace, photographe de guerre anéantie après un violent incident en Irak, décide de renoncer à son métier. Max, son mari belge, chirurgien spécialiste de la cataracte, travaille dans une clinique des yeux dans les andes, au Pérou. Non loin de là, les villageois de Turubamba succombent à des maladies causées par des écoulements de mercure provenant de la mine locale. Ignorant la véritable cause de l'épidémie, les villageois tournent leur colère contre les médecins étrangers et, à l'occasion d'une rixe, Max est tué. Grace entreprend alors un pélerinage jusqu'a l'endroit de sa mort.
