Le soir de Noël, Ebenezer Scrooge reçoit la visite du fantôme de son ancien associé, Jacob Marley qui tente de lui faire entendre raison : son comportement ne pourra jamais le rendre heureux. La nuit qui suit cet entretien, il reçoit la visite succesive de trois fantômes incarnant les Noëls passés, présent et futurs.
