A propos du film :

Le marinier Jean a épousé Juliette, une fille de paysans de l'Oise. Ils vont vivre a bord de leur péniche "L'Atalante" des moments de bonheur et des moments de tristesse. L'équipage se compose d'un mousse et du père Jules, inénarrable personnage qui vit au milieu de ses chats. Mais Juliette, après la rencontre au bal musette d'un jeune camelot, quitte le navire. A bord de "L'Atalante" c'est la consternation jusqu'au moment où Jules s'en mêle. Dernier et unique long métrage de Jean Vigo qui mourut quelques jours après la réalisation du film qu'il ne vit jamais.
